Christmas came early for Sweetie and I in the form of two tickets to see/hear the symphony again. This time the music was Handel's Messiah and I must say it was quite delightful. Many thanks to one of the ladies in my writing group who just happens to sing in the choir and just happened to have two tickets she wasn't going to use.

The music was great. Being in the company of my Sweetie even greater. But I think the best part of the night was being away from home for 3 hours and not once thinking about what was happening in my absence. Once I sat down in my seat (where, by the way, it felt like we could reach out and play a few notes on the kettle drum) and turned off my phone I also turned off my caregiver mode. It really is great to get away from the madding crowd and let my body, mind and spirit relax. It's also good for Dad to spend time with his other daughters. It was definitely a win-win situation anyway you look at it.

While I'm on the subject of music, I rifled through cd's this afternoon and pulled out all the Christmas music. I have a pretty eclectic collection, from John Denver and the Muppets, to the Irish Tenors, to Raffi, to Nicholas Gunn. It might have something to do with my jangled nerves, but I find I really only want to listen to quiet, instrumental melodies.

At the moment.... silence. I haven't had any music on for a while, which is rare as usually it's going on in the background.
And as for Christmas music it is there everywhere I go driving me nuts. But to hear the carols of my childhood well that's a differnt matter.

Uhmmm...I have to choose a favorite? I LOVE the older Christmas music - NOT the barking dogs (grates on my last nerve), or Alvin & the Chipmunks & all that screaming, or Grandma getting run over by a reindeer.

But if I had to choose a favorite it would be a tie between Oh come, oh come, Emmanuel, O Holy Night and I'll be home for Christmas.

You and Sweetie look so festive Mary! :) So happy to see you out and about and experiencing the gift of Music and Handel's Messiah is one of my favorites!

I think my most favorite holiday song is Silent Night...always has been and always will be...followed by Ave Maria and O Holy Night...they just do something to my heartstrings.

I'm listening to a new cd mix I made over the weekend on my laptop Aretha Franklin, Van Morrison, Taylor Swift, Joss Stone, Don Henley and Trisha Yearwood. I love to do that! I made one of dance music and I put on a night shirt turn up the volume and just go! Love, Jenn

Merry Me!! You look so Merry w/ He!!! And I had to share cuz I just know you will want to listen to my favorites which are Breath of Heaven, Mary's Song (Mary did you know, that your baby boy would...) and Joseph's Song! When they come on, God-Bumps rip all up and down my body! You will love them!!

Oh, and I absolutely love the JEWISH group, Bare Naked Ladies' version of Comfort & Joy -- OMG so gooooodddd!!

Holy Moly

I knew it had been quite some time since I'd posted anything here, but had no idea it had been since December. Where does the time go? Is there anyone out there still reading this blog.  I don't know what happened, but the words just quit coming. And maybe I got lazy. Misadventures of a Happy Heart A Memoir of Life Beyond Disabilities by Amy Quincy When E-books first came out, I was of the I'll-never-buy-one-because-I-like-the-feel-of-a-book-in-my-hand school of thought. Then I bought one. Then two. Then enough more to realize reading on a Nook was infinitely easier than holding a bound book and turning the pages, especially when reading in bed. Which is where I usually read. I also like the fact that I can make the font bigger to match my diminishing eye sight. I got a new pair of glasses last week and was amazed at how clear and bright the world looked through the new prescription. The saleswoman put a card with tee-tiny writing on it under my nose and I could read with no difficulty at all. Until I got home. Now I'm having to move my head either up or down depending on whether I'm looking far away or close up. Perhaps I should have saved the money I spent on new glasses and bought a larger Nook.
