Guess who was on the radio this morning?


My writing coach/friend Carol O'Dell was filling in for her friend as host a local show on caregiving. She asked if she could interview me. ME??????

I think being on the radio is probably one of those things one can't say no to. Well, you can, but probably shouldn't. How many times do you get to be heard, and don't have to worry about a TV camera adding pounds to your already pound covered body. Perhaps if anyone else had asked I might have hesitated. But I really, really trust Carol. I trust that she wouldn't ask me to say anything I didn't want to say. She leads with a very gentle nudge that makes it feel like what you're about to do isn't new at all, but something you've been doing your whole life.

So there I was this morning on WBOB radio! Carol asked questions about being a caregiver and had me read portions of a new essay I've written. The hour was split up with commercial segments so the time went pretty fast. I didn't really have time to think about what I was going to say, so I just let it rip!

Carol is going to send me a taped copy of the show. If I can figure out how to pass it on I will.

I really stepped out of my comfort zone, which crazy as it seems is about the size of the inside of my house. I guess it's like having Stockholm syndrome. On one hand I feel like I'm being held captive by circumstances beyond my control. On the other, I feel scared if I venture too far from home. I really feel brave today. How's that for a different kind of feeling!

Who well done you! Glad you felt able to inform the radio audience about caregiving. if you talk like you write it will have been really informative.

As for your last paragraph there is a book with an amzing title ( I don't like the book much) ....
Feel the fear and do it anyway.
Seems to sum up what I know people should do!

Quite likely you won't ever know just how many people will benefit from your loving kindness. Probably in such matters we aren't supposed to know. But remember this; if you've touched one other person who touches one other person eventually the entire planet will bask in LOVE....Hmmm, I just thought Sweetie's words beared repeating!! Brave is truly a mild word here...as Ter says...YOU ROCK! :)

Holy Moly

I knew it had been quite some time since I'd posted anything here, but had no idea it had been since December. Where does the time go? Misadventures of a Happy Heart A Memoir of Life Beyond Disabilities by Amy Quincy When E-books first came out, I was of the I'll-never-buy-one-because-I-like-the-feel-of-a-book-in-my-hand school of thought. Then I bought one. Then two. Then enough more to realize reading on a Nook was infinitely easier than holding a bound book and turning the pages, especially when reading in bed. Which is where I usually read. I also like the fact that I can make the font bigger to match my diminishing eye sight. I got a new pair of glasses last week and was amazed at how clear and bright the world looked through the new prescription. The saleswoman put a card with tee-tiny writing on it under my nose and I could read with no difficulty at all. Until I got home. Now I'm having to move my head either up or down depending on whether I'm looking far away or close up. Perhaps I should have saved the money I spent on new glasses and bought a larger Nook.
